About
Through Softwood Books, I worked with author Martin Chard on a new middle grade YA dystopian novel. With a hint of Cli-Fi (Climate Fiction), the story follows the Farmer children as a mysterious sickness spreads among the adults and animals in Celefar following a crop failure.
In collaboration with the client, we opted for a cover design that leans into genre conventions for YA dystopian fiction as well as the emerging sub-genre Cli-Fi. The result is a striking, minimalist, and modern cover design that leans into both design languages and remains easily adaptable for the rest of the trilogy.
For the interiors, we went with a contemporary design that maximises readability and complements the cover. This was then adapted into a reflowable ePUB format for a dual-format release.
