About
Through Softwood Books, I worked with author Peter Ward on a new historical science fiction novel about a young hero who travels back in time to survive violent conflict at sea and star-crossed love. The client requested for a Shin-Hanga landscape inspired cover and provided reference images to the boats featured in the novel. Through hand-drawn digital illustration, borrowing colours from Shin-Hanga artwork, I designed a moody and atmospheric illustrated cover that pays homage to the gripping plot line. For the interiors, we went with an elegant design suitable for historical sea-faring fiction. This was then adapted into a reflowable ePUB format for a dual-format release.
